Our Hike , Oct. 30, 2026 # Walking With Marine Veteran Donald Allen Wood **Honoring a Life of Service, Family, and Kindness** Today, we headed to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, where we hiked the beautiful Cascade Trail in honor of Marine Veteran **Donald Allen Wood, age 60, of Burkesville, Kentucky**, who passed away on March 8, 2018. Donald was born on February 14, 1958, in Irving, New York, to William Walter and Margaret Alice Mann Wood. He grew up in Fredonia, a small town in the snowbelt region of southwestern New York. After graduating from high school in 1976, Donald answered the call of duty and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1984. During his military service, he was stationed at Twenty-nine Palms, California, and later transferred to Okinawa, Japan, where he spent 18 months at Camp Kinser. It was there that he learned diesel mechanics, a skill that would become an important part of his life. Donald married the love of his life, Rosemary Elizabeth Dean, on January 15, 1977. Together, they shared 41 years of marriage. Their daughter, Michelle, was born while Donald was serving in the Marines. Following his military service, Donald spent several years near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eventually, the eastern United States called him back, and he settled in Burkesville, Kentucky. He worked at a sawmill before returning to what he knew best, diesel mechanics. Those who knew Donald knew him as someone who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was the kind of man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Sadly, Donald passed away while at work, doing what he knew best β€” helping others with diesel mechanics. Today, we wanted to make sure his service, his life, and his memory were not forgotten. The weather couldn't have been more perfect as we made our way along the Cascade Trail. The scenery was beautiful, and every step was taken in honor of a Marine who served his country and spent his life helping others. We completed **2.22 miles** in Donald's honor. A special thank-you goes to our hiking friend Donna for joining us today to honor her brother. Having family walk alongside us makes these tributes even more special. Thank you, Donna, for sharing this time with us and allowing us to honor Donald together. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to **Fallen Hero PO3 Ommy Molina II** for helping us honor this Marine Veteran today. Donald may no longer be with us, but his service, his kindness, and the memories he left behind will continue to live on. **Marine Veteran Donald Allen Wood, your service mattered, your life mattered, and you will not be forgotten.** πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ **WE WALK TO REMEMBER. WE WALK TO HONOR. WE WALK SO THEY ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN.** **iwalk4them.com**
