GatherBump

Guide

How GatherBump works

Everything you need to know about profiles, Hubs, Groups, Market, tips, Priority posts and staying safe. Tap a topic to open it.

Getting startedYour profile, friends, messages and notifications.

Your personal profile is you. Use your real first and last name. Businesses, creators and communities get their own Hubs and Groups (see below).

  • Feed is where you see what people are sharing and post your own updates, photos and videos.
  • Videos can be up to 2 minutes and 400 MB. If a video is too large, export it again from your video editor at 1080p and 30 fps with a lower bitrate or quality setting. It will look the same on GatherBump.
  • Friends lets you search for members and send friend requests. Accepted requests make you friends.
  • Messages holds your private conversations with friends and other members.
  • The bell shows your notifications: comments, reactions, friend requests, messages and more.
  • Settings is the GatherBump logo button on your profile. It has Edit Profile, privacy, blocking, appearance and notification options.
Members, Hubs and GroupsWhat each one is for and who it is for.
  • Members are people. Your personal profile has friends, your posts and your album.
  • Hubs are public pages for businesses, creators, organizations, clubs, public figures and other public identities. Hubs have followers, not friends. Members follow the Hubs they like, and public Hub posts can be seen even by people without an account.
  • Groups are community spaces built around a shared interest. Signed-in members can view a Group, and approved Group members can post and comment.

One person can run a personal profile and their own Hubs and Groups from the same account.

Creating a HubHow to set up a Hub for your business, brand or creative work.
  • Go to Explore, choose Hubs, then tap + Create Hub.
  • Pick a display name, a web address and a category. The web address is permanent, so choose it carefully. The category matters too: only some creator categories can apply for Direct Tips.
  • Open your Hub to post as the Hub, add a profile photo, cover photo and About Me, see your followers, and answer messages sent to the Hub. You decide whether people can message your Hub.
  • Tap Share on your Hub to send its link anywhere. People who create a GatherBump account from that link automatically follow your Hub.
  • To keep a post at the top of your Hub, tap the three dots on it and choose Pin to top. You can pin up to 3 posts; choose Unpin to take one down.

Hub owners are responsible for their Hub and must follow the Terms and Community Guidelines.

GroupsFinding, joining and creating Groups.
  • Go to Explore, then Groups. Use Discover to search for Groups, Joined for Groups you belong to, and Created for Groups you run.
  • To join, open a Group and tap Join Group or Request to join. Some Groups ask a few joining questions, and their owner or managers approve requests.
  • To start your own, tap + Create Group. You can add joining questions and choose who gets in.
  • Group owners can tap Invite on their Group to share a link. Anyone who opens it is taken to the Group to join, even if they need to create an account first.
  • Group owners can pin up to 3 of their own posts to the top of the Group: tap the three dots on the post and choose Pin to top.
Direct Tips for creatorsWhich Hubs can receive tips and how tipping works.

Who can receive tips

Direct Tips are for individual creators. A Hub can apply if its category is Content Creator, Comedian, Musician / Band, Author, Artist, Photographer or Podcaster, and it is run by one person rather than a business or organization. Groups and other Hub categories can't receive tips.

Requirements

  • At least 100 followers
  • At least 10 original Hub posts
  • A profile photo, cover photo and bio on the Hub
  • A Cash App $Cashtag that belongs to you

How to apply

Open your Hub and go to Tips. You'll see your progress on each requirement. Once you qualify, enter your $Cashtag, confirm you're an individual creator, and submit it for review. GatherBump reviews every request. Changing your $Cashtag later needs a new review.

How tipping works

  • Approved Hubs show a Tip Creator button. It opens Cash App so you can send a tip straight to the creator.
  • GatherBump takes 0%. We don't process, hold, track or refund tips.
  • Tips are voluntary gifts. Creators can't offer perks, content or special access in return for a tip.
Priority postsBoost your post to the top of the Feed for 24 hours.
  • What it is: Priority gives your post priority placement in the GatherBump Feed for 24 hours, so more people see it.
  • Price: $5 per post for 24 hours, paid securely through Square. You see the price before you pay.
  • Where to find it: tap the lightning bolt on one of your own posts, then choose to prioritize it.
  • Which posts: your own original posts, from your profile or a Hub you run. Shared posts and Group posts can't be prioritized.
  • Priority posts must still follow the Community Guidelines.

Free Priority Passes

Invite people to GatherBump and earn free Priority. Tap Invite on your profile, next to Explore, to get your personal link. You earn a free 24-hour Priority Pass when 20, 50 and 100 new members join through your link, verify their email and finish their profile: up to three passes in all. To use it, tap the lightning bolt on your post and choose Use Free Priority Pass. Passes stay available until you use them.

MarketBuying and selling with other members.

Go to Explore, then Market. Browse listings by state and category, see your own under Your listings, or tap + Sell Something to list an item.

Selling

  • Add up to 5 photos, a title, price, description, and your city and state.
  • New accounts can have up to 5 active listings during their first 7 days.
  • Some items can't be sold. See the Community Guidelines for the list.
  • We'll check in on day 7 and day 14 to ask whether your item is still available. Tap Still available to keep it listed or Mark as sold when it's gone. Listings that aren't confirmed are hidden after 30 days.

Buying

  • Tap Message seller on a listing. This works even if you or the seller only accept messages from friends.
  • You and the seller agree on price, payment, and pickup or shipping yourselves. GatherBump doesn't handle payments or guarantee items.
  • Stay safe: meet in a public place, check the item before you pay, and be wary of anyone who pressures you or asks for payment up front.
  • See something wrong? Use Report on the listing.
Tagging members and HubsType @ to tag someone in a post or comment.
  • In a post, comment or reply, type @ and the first few letters of a name. Pick the right member or Hub from the list (it shows their picture), and their name turns into a tag.
  • Anyone who sees the post can tap the tag to open that profile or Hub.
  • The person or Hub you tag gets a notification in their bell, unless they can't see the post (for example, a friends-only post when you aren't friends, or a group they aren't in).
  • You can tag people when you edit a post or comment too. Removing a tag in an edit takes the notification back.
  • People you've blocked, or who have blocked you, don't show up and aren't notified.
Messages and privacyWho can message you and who can see your profile.
  • Friends-only messages: turn this on in Settings and only your friends can start a conversation with you. The one exception is a buyer who contacts you about your Market listing.
  • Profile visibility: in Settings, choose Members only so only signed-in members can see your personal profile and posts, or Public so anyone, including search engines, can see them. New accounts start as Public, and you can switch anytime.
  • Hub owners decide whether people can message their Hub.
Blocking and reportingHow to stop someone from contacting you and how to report content.

Blocking

  • Block someone from the menu on one of their posts, from a conversation's options, or from their profile.
  • Blocking works both ways: you won't see each other's posts, comments or Market listings, and neither of you can message the other or send a friend request.
  • To unblock someone, open Settings, then Blocked accounts.

Reporting

  • Report a post from its menu, a Market listing with its Report button, or a conversation from its options.
  • For anything else, such as a profile, Hub or Group, email contact@gatherbump.com.
  • We aim to review reports within 24 hours. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
Your name and profileChanging your name, photos and look.
  • Change your name: open Settings, then Edit Profile. You can change your display name once every 30 days. Your profile link stays the same. Names can't contain email addresses or website links.
  • Edit Profile is also where you update your About Me, location and relationship status.
  • Tap your profile or cover photo to add or change it.
  • Appearance: in Settings, pick an accent color for your profile and turn Dark Mode on or off.
The app and notificationsInstalling GatherBump on your phone and turning on notifications.
  • Open Settings and tap Install GatherBump to add it to your phone like an app.
  • On iPhone: open GatherBump in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Open GatherBump from the new Home Screen icon to turn on notifications.
  • Turn on phone notifications in Settings to hear about messages, comments and friend requests when you're away.
Deleting your accountHow to leave GatherBump.

Open Settings, then Edit Profile, and choose Delete account. See Data Deletion for what is removed and when.
