A friend saved these seed pods for me because I couldn’t find passionflower growing anywhere on my property! These are dried (some still drying) passionflower fruits & I’m really hoping to get some plants established next year! Passionflower, also known as maypop (Passiflora incarnata) is a beautiful flowering vine & so much more. It has a long history of use especially for calming the nervous system. It’s been used to help ease anxiety, as a gentle sleep aid and contains naturally occurring flavonoids. There is also some human research suggesting that passionflower may help with anxiety and sleep! Most medicinal preparations are of the above ground parts, not just the fruits. People dry it for teas or use it fresh in tinctures! & the fruits are also edible & can be used in jams, jellies, drinks and other foods. The pulp is aromatic and sweet tart tasting. Passionflower can make you drowsy & can interact with sedatives or alcohol. Do not use if you’re pregnant because it may cause uterine contractions. If you’re breastfeeding/on meds or have health issues, you might talk with a healthcare professional first! And if you use passionflower within 2 weeks of surgery, tell your doc. Have you ever used this amazing plant before?
